Influential African American artist based out of Virginia, this is one of Eugene Vango’s recent abstract expressionist pieces he showed at Riverviews Art Space in downtown Lynchburg, VA.
Vango is currently in his 80's and is still creating his iconic abstract artwork. He is known for his use of bold acrylics, inspiration from churches, and his use of recycled canvases that he gets from thrift stores and recovers to keep art affordable. He taught at VSU and was the head of the art and design department there during his career.
He has served as associate curator for the Tuskegee Airmen exhibit at the Black History Museum in Richmond, VA. His pieces have been on display at over 30 individual shows and over 60 group shows.
